Avoiding Cell Phone Scams

Cloning - your phone is copied and calls are made at your expense. Alert your carrier if you have charges on your bill that are not yours.

Electronic Eavesdropping - listening in on your calls, finding out where you are from the gps data. Turn your phone off and on throughout the day to reset your signal.

Lost or Stolen Phones - a thief can copy all the info in your phone including contact lists and important data, plus they can run up a big cell phone bill. Alert your carrier right away so they can block the phone usage.

Random Text Messages - unsolicited text message that prompts you to take some action. When important people in your life need information, speak to that person over the phone or in person and never provide this information via a text message.

Ring Tone Scams - ring tones can have a virus preloaded that damages the phone or steals confidential information. Or you might get invited to call a 800 number which could sign you up for something or charge you a high service charge. Only download tones from reputable companies. Don't return calls from people you don't know.

Subscriber Fraud - if someone gets your personal information andthen opens a cell phone account, they can rack up huge bills in your name. Protect yourself from identity theft.
