Neighborhood Watch Meeting Sept 14, 2011 Neighborhood Watch Signs for the newer part of the community have been turned over to the city for installation. Last months delay was due to a request from the city for us to provide brackets at about $10 apiece for about 30 signs. We need to get the signs back from the city and do it ourselves. The HOA will assist us with the cost of bolts etc. HOA will provide a banner to announce Safety/Neighborhood Watch meetings on the second Wednesday of the month. Traffic problems in our community. Excessive speed and running red lights continue, we know where many of the violators live. Suggest we create a list of date and times, vehicle description, and home address. We provide the list to the HOA and Sheriff Station for assistance. We can publish the list each month. Could we get a neighbor to put up a camera to record the speeding vehicle? Bridgegate Construction Activity - Ask Richmond America to put a camera on the open gate. Enforce no contractors before 7am. Stage somewhere else until 7am. On Saturday its a free for all, pounding nails before 7am and trash dumping into the construction area. People enter the area thru outbound lanes. Construction traffic sometimes bypasses the gate and goes thru the residential streets to enter at the back entrance. Richmond American could do a better job of managing their contractors. Homeowners in this area do not feel secure and would like to see the gate codes changed every 3 to 6 months. Flash Mob If you and your family get caught in one, Assess the direction of movement, then move sideways slowly to escape from the flow. Avoid standing out by facing the mob, minimize your appearance with a scarf or hood over bright blond hair, get control of your children, practice a code word where they shut up and listen to your direction. Avoid wearing provacative clothing or inflammatory words. Don't look back to see what happens. Just get out of there. Home Invasion If its a Break and Enter and then you come home to surprise them, quickly back out and go to a neighbors house. Don't try to engage them. Preparation and Proper Mindset are important to prevent these activities. Don't open the door without knowing who is outside. Usually, no one should come to your home and ask for entry if you did not invite them. The exception is law enforcement, but criminals sometimes impersonate them. Keep your doors locked all the time. When it's hot, how many leave their garage open and the door to the house unlocked while they are in the backyard, or upstairs in the house? How often do you come home with a load of groceries, car doors are open, front door is open, purse is on the floor inside the door, and the phone rings and you go and sit down inside the house and carry on a long conversation? Do you have an escape plan? You should for fire and earthquake? Establish a code word like “ESCAPE” to signal to your family the danger and the action to take. They should already know of a meeting place to gather at. Remember to call 911. Don't let all of you get caught. Those that get away can summon help and will present a greater uncertainty to the invaders. They will need to hurry up and get away before reinforcements arrive. If you stay around to defend your family, maybe no one gets away and then no one will be able to summon help. Don't attempt to “clear” your home yourself. If you see movement thru a window or hear a noise upstairs, that might mean an armed intruder may be hiding inside your house. Call 911 and let them take care of this. Law enforcement has a lot more training and will bring more people. |
