Neighborhood Watch Meeting, August 10, 2011 Neighborhood Watch Signs for the newer part of the community have been turned over to the city for installation. This months delay is due to a request from the city for us to provide brackets at about $10 apiece for about 30 signs. We request assistance from the Board on this matter, or possibly Pardee Homes can assist us in this matter. HOA will provide a banner to announce Safety/Neighborhood Watch meetings on the second Wednesday of the month. Crime Reports for Canyon Hills in July. Good job to our community. Only two incidents. 7/4/11 Family Offense, PC273.5 at block 32500 Bramble Ct 7/13/11 Theft PC488 at block 29900 Canyon Hills Rd (You can search with PCxxx to get a description of the Penal Code Offense.)
Traffic problems at Cottonwood Canyon Hills, Treetop Lane, and Canopy due to morning traffic cutting thru the neighborhood. Will need a way to curtail the speeding cars. Suggest we create a list of date and times and vehicle description and provide to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff Station for assistance. Could we get a neighbor to put up a camera to record the speeding vehicle. CERT Class will be
held September 19-21, 2011 in Lake Elsinore. Contact the
city to sign up if you are interested. See the city web
site for details. National Neighborhood
Watch Program was developed by the National
Sheriff's Association. We discussed ways you could help
law enforcement, such as: Personal Property
Identification Record for use after a burglary. Law
enforcement's going to ask what are the models and serial
numbers. Put return address labels on your equipment. I
had a break-in at a business and items were recovered that
night because there were address labels on the items. Home Security Inspection
Checklist is a multipage document that helps you
determine the security of your home and steps that can be
taken to improve the situation. Prevent Burglaries when your home is vacant or you are on vacation. Again, another great document. California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection 100 feet of Defensible Space is the Law. Our Greatest disaster could be a fire in the creek behind Sprucewood and Mossy Glen. If a fire starts, we might need to defend at Canyon Hills Rd. Cal Fire and the environmentalists report to the same department head in California. So there is a compromise on the required brush clearance in a protected area. Homeowners can help by reducing or eliminating flammable shrubs or structures in their backyards. Tiki huts, dry palm trees, etc.
Helping Children Cope With Disaster (FEMA-Citizen Corps) Children's coping with disaster or emergencies is often tied to the way parents cope. But, parents are the best support for children in disasters. One way to establish confidence is to involve the children in preparing a family disaster plan. Practice the disaster drills, so they are comfortable doing them. Clarify misunderstandings about risk and danger by listening to children's concerns and answering their questions. Monitor and limit their exposure to media. When people feel prepared, they cope better and so do their children. This was a long article that needs more time for discussion. |
