Tips
As the school year starts,
officials stress safety from predators. Schools
are target zones for these people.
Students should always be aware of their surroundings, especially when walking or waiting alone.
Walk in groups of two or more. Don't take shortcuts through alleys or unlit areas.
Never approach unfamiliar vehicles or people. Keep your distance and give yourself room to run.
Never get into a vehicle with a stranger.
If a stranger tries to grab you, fight, shout, scream, kick, bite and run back to school to call 911.
Never take anything a stranger offers you - do not accept candy, food or money from a stranger.
Stay away from isolated places, such as deserted buildings or empty parking lots.
Remain on school grounds during school hours.
Immediately tell parents and teachers about any suspicious activities or people encountered on the way to or from school.
Always tell your parents where you are going and when you will return.
Children should know their full name, address and home phone number and the school should have current emergency contact information on file.
